Research Overview
Edinburgh Clinical Toxicology has a strong tradition of internationally competitive research. The aims of our research portfolio are to:
Prevent deaths from poisoning in the UK and worldwide by researching the mechanisms of poisoning and finding new treatments for poisoned patients
Utilise poisoned patients as a model to develop new biomarkers and therapeutics for acute organ injury
The group performs clinical trials and biomarker studies in poisoned patients in Edinburgh, across the UK and rural Asia, clinical studies with volunteers in the Edinburgh clinical research facilities, and basic studies in cell lines, zebrafish, mice and minipig models of poisoning.
